Professor Colombo teaches courses in corporate, securities, and contract law at Hofstra University’s Maurice A. Deane School of Law. His scholarship has focused largely on issues of securities fraud, corporate law, and financial regulation, and has done so via the application of natural law theory, economic theory, moral philosophy, and neuroscience. More recently, his scholarship has addressed the constitutional rights of business entities. In 2014 he authored a book on the subject, entitled “The First Amendment and the Business Corporation,” published by Oxford University Press. Professor Colombo graduated, magna cum laude, from NYU School of Law. At NYU, Professor Colombo was a member of the NYU Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Immediately following graduation, Professor Colombo clerked for Judge Jerry E. Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Professor Colombo lives in Bergen County, NJ with his wife and five children.
Mr. Bruno is a Surrogate Judge in Somerset County since 2001. He has held multiple positions in county administration. Mr. Bruno had also been active in municipal government in Bound Brook, NJ, serving in numerous capacities including Borough Council member and Commissioner of Police, Fire,& Safety, and Commissioner of Economic Development.
His diverse interests: a member of the NJ Italian-American Heritage Commission Advisory Board; a former Radio Announcer for WDVR FM, host of the Rural Radio Show and Heartlands Hayride; a Board Member of the Bound Brook Arts Theater and of the New Jersey Association of Counties; and a member of the Society for Industrial Archaeology, Crafts of New Jersey, the Society of G.K. Chesterton, the Knights of Columbus (Somerville Council #1432), the Somerville Elks Lodge 1068, and the Federalist Society; and a Past President of the National College of Probate Judges.
Mr. Bruno also served in the US Navy from 1965-1968 on the USS Randolph.
He is a resident of Branchburg, NJ; he is married and has two children.
I am a trial lawyer specializing in employment and civil rights cases on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants in both New York and New Jersey and in both state court and Federal Court. Having been Legal Counsel to the Jersey City Police Department for eight years, I have a particular expertise in Sec. 1983 litigation alleging excessive force. Have argued cases at before the Appellate Division of New Jersey and New York and before the New Jersey Supreme Court and the Third Circuit. I have the dubious distinction of obtaining the largest ever palimony verdict in New Jersey after a 28 day trial (Harrison v. Massaro).
I am also a part time Assistant County Counsel in the Hudson County Law Department where I handle civil service appeals and assist the County Adjuster in civil commitments.
In the past, under differing political winds, I had done significant transactional work in the real estate development of the Jersey City waterfront regularly appearing before the Planning Department, the Zoning Board and the Historic Preservation Commission and other similar boards.
I am an adjunct professor at St. Peter’s University in Jersey City and am on the Board of the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy which seeks to preserve the city’s built environment and am the founder and board member of Cantantes In Cordibus, LLC, a non profit which seeks to cultivate and preserve sacred music.
Currently, Dr. Eckart works for Sanofi as a medical writer.
Mrs. Eckart taught Biology and Algebra II at Sedes Sapientiae School and middle school science at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Boonton. She and Joe just welcomed their second child in the fall 2020.
